It’s Not Greed

  1. King of the Jungle - SahBabii: This track is one of those 7PM sunset peeking out over the hill, windows down, doing a cool 45 (not too fast but then again not too slow) kinda tracks. Most people are familiar with SahBabii from his 2017 smash Pull Up Wit Ah Stick but I hope this track shows that he’s more than just a one hit wonder. His flow is infectious and those fucking jungle sounds dude. Nuff said.

  2. Holland, 1945 - Neutral Milk Hotel
I know it’s trite to talk about this band and there are so many smarter and more eloquent people that have written about this record, but I urge you to never read any of it. Experience this one and find your own favorite tracks with virgin ears. This is mine, DM me yours and I’ll hit you with three “thumbs up” emojis

  3. Drankin’ Patna - T-Pain
I’m a Tallahassee boy through and through. I was born there and goddammit I think I just might die there. This cut off T-Pain’s 2014 Stoicville is a perfect example of his genius; the hook is so juicy and fun, the verses are so fun to rap along to, the beat makes you do one of those stank faces. This is simply a perfect T-Pain song. Tallahassee stand up

  4. I’m With You - Avril Lavigne
The way that Drankin’ Patna is a perfect T-Pain track, this one is an absolutely perfect Avril joint. The bridge on this track is probably one of the best out of the early aughts, at least up until Sexyback. Crank this one in the shower and belt ‘er out, you know you know it.

  5. departure! - GALNERYUS
I think that Japanese is the perfect language for power metal. Dripping with contemporary J-Pop influences, GALNERYUS still shreds so precisely and so relentlessly that I think there’s something for everyone on this record. The song was actually chosen to be the opening theme for the monstrously popular anime Hunter x Hunter. You can smile!

  6. For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her (Live in St. Louis 1969) - Simon and Garfunkel
Vibe switch on you there, huh. Sorry about that but hey man life moves fast, shit happens! I think that Simon and Garfunkel are able to write beautiful music more efficiently than anyone in the game. I mean, realistically there are only 16 lines in this song, but God it damn near drives me to tears every time. I always clap when it ends like the audience

  7. Big on Big - Migos
Switch it back! Keeping you on your toes. Strong candidate for most underrated track off Culture, this song has one of the best Offset verses on the record. Hard to believe when you see the other slappers in contention, but give it a couple listens and I think you’ll start to agree with me. Don’t try and keep up with the ‘Cho…

  8. You Don’t Have To Be A Prostitute - Flight of the Choncords
If I did a “Track of the Week” spread, this one would be my choice this time around. I think this song is not only really fucking funny, but really well made and sonically dope. I know, I know, more white guy reggae, and this time it’s literally satire, but that bit about having any other skills is too good to deny

  9. What I Need - Orleans
This track was the first I threw in the list this week, and that usually means that they bring up the rear. This song is so fun, so cute, so pure, so good. It offers the incredible wisdom that “It’s not greed, to ask for what you need.” Make sure you remind yourself that in your next biannual relationship check in. Most famous for Still The One, Orleans has a lot of solid deeper cuts. Maybe be on the lookout for some more in the future

I had a great time putting this one together this week. This one will hit different in the car. Maybe next time you hit the Starbucks drive through, bump this one on the trek. Gotta expose it to the air, like a fine wine. Just don’t spit anything out at the end of it
