Get Behind Me!

  1. Yum Yum Cult - TOBACCO: I would like to formally thank my cousins husband, Matt, for introducing me to Black Moth Super Rainbow when I was 12 years old which in turn led to my obsession with Thomas Fec. Fec, the mastermind behind both BMSR and TOBACCO, is the only person I would ever watch use a theremin during a live performance. Shit is alien tech man!

  2. Fool On The Street - Rick James: Something about a Rick James track just makes you feel good, even if it’s about not letting a cold hearted lover back into your life. Fool me once, shame on.. shame on…you. You fool me and you can’t get fooled again

  3. BREEZIN’ - Masayoshi Takanaka: One of the most prolific Japanese guitarists and composers of the 80’s and 90’s, Takanaka kicks the good feels up to 11 on this one. The bass groove is funky, the guitars are clean and cool, and the vibe of this one is just utterly unmatched. Truly living up to it’s namesake, this song is breezy as fuck. Certified Sleepybear Driving Track of the Week. Grab a Sprite and pop this one on the highway for maximum effectiveness

  4. MYSTERY - Turnstile: Okay, I’m a little embarrassed about this one. I didn’t notice that my man Glizz threw this track on one of his lists a few weeks ago, but to be fair he put the single version up. I’m bringing it back with the EP version that comes off Turnstile’s newest offering, TURNSTILE LOVE CONNECTION. These guys just don’t miss man, everything they drop makes my mouth water for more. Lemme get a little non-stop fee-ling!

  5. Slippin’ Into Darkness - War: I’m feeling funky this week I can’t deny it! This track from War brings Blues themes to a Funk party and the result is a meditation on the trials of everyday life. It’s hard to stay on the path of the light. It seems much easier to slip into that darkness, but it’s always helpful to have people around us to pull us back to that light. The journey is the destination man, just make sure you got enough water for the trip

  6. Story to Tell - Death: I’ve been going back and forth about the inclusion of this song on the list this week but at the end of the day man fuck it I’m doing this for myself most of all. This track is so fucking incredible. The constant melody changes, the crying guitars, the pounding horse-hoof bass drums. Everything about this song is ridiculous. One of the most interesting metal tracks that I’ve ever come across and I had to pass it along. Don’t skip this one, I promise it’s worth it

  7. Will “The Thrill” - Cayucas: I saw Cayucas at Bonnarroo 2014 with the Czar, Glizzman and a few other homies. They’re a band that whenever their music comes on my shuffles or Daily Mixes, it always makes me smile. It’s fun for the whole family, perfect for a light beer and a waffle cone with some vanilla ice cream and rainbow sprinkles. Had to throw a little palette cleanser on the back end of this one after that Death joint. Go throw a frisbee

Remember to take care of yourself. Don’t drink too much without taking a water break every now and then. Don’t wash your hair too much or the natural oils will get fucked up. Make sure that if you’re feeling scared, you get behind someone. I’ll be that man for you, if you need. See you next week
