Talk to Me When You’re Fucking With the Glizzie Playlists the Way You Shoulda Been All Along

  1. Illuminations - Devadip Carlos Santana, Alice Coltrane

Illuminations from the moon and stars brighten my path as I’m leaving the tent for the night.

If it were the right month, a gallery of multi-colored Christmas lights tangled in the trees would paint the path with a psychedelic hue.

A memory of a giant bush that we used to do delinquent shit behind as I reach the end of the driveway.

I turn around to get one final look at the tent.

Inside, nothing gets too crazy. Usually some catching up that quickly transforms into feeling like we never left.

    So we keep coming back.

1 year could go by. 2 years. 3. Upon return, nothing’s changed. I guess it wouldn’t be too curious to ask, “Is it the tent that stays the same? Or is it us?”

    Completely ambiguous.

The mini refrigerator littered with stickers will always be stocked with beer, and there will always be someone there, raiding it like the feds, soon to throw you one that’s as cold as the Rockies.

    Until next time

  2. Saving Grace - Jack Larsen

The only way Grace can be saved is if she downloads this playlist to her iPhone and hits “share” on this blog.

    Otherwise, she’s SOL and JWF

  3. Sweet & Spice - Deb Never, Jim-E Stack

Jim-E Stack has become that guy for me. He’s got perfect aim. Don’t believe me? Listen to EPHEMERA, his most recent album. Tell me I’m wrong.

Deb Never is someone who I THINK I’ve seen live. There is a chance she was on stage for Brockhampton’s Camp Flog Gnaw performance back in 2019. I was pretty drunk, so I don’t remember. Sorry about that Deb. At least we can formally reconnect here in my safe space. And good job on this track, I think it’s your best. I’ll tweet about it later this week to make up for me forgetting if I’ve seen you live

  4. Mary Jane (All Night Long) - Mary J. Blige

I’m convinced this track was the blueprint for Calvin Harris’ Slide, but I can’t find any evidence of that online. Big if true, and wouldn’t be the first time Frank was on his MJB shit. Almost 10 years ago, he was singing the Real Love chorus on Super Rich Kids. Time flies, or maybe, time slides?

  5. This Too Shall Pass - Laraaji

It is always good to discover an absolute sicko. I mean, Laraaji is a pervert for what he does to the keys on this track. I’m OK with it, though. You know when Jimmy Neutron has a brain blast, when the camera man goes straight into his ear and traces his auditory pathway right to his brain? He sees it pumping out of control like it’s about to explode? Basically, Laraaji’s sensual playing makes my brain pump like that. This too shall pass, but I prefer that it wouldn’t

  6. No More Left Like It’s Death - John Glacier

Check out SHILOH: Lost For Words.

I stumbled upon a gem in John Glacier. She gives off a phantom-like, Batman vibe. I bet she gets into some shadow lurker, howling at the moon kind of shit. The production here may sound familiar, and that’s probably because it is. She got Vegyn on the beat. For her debut. Craziness.

Boozy, On Formulation, and Icing are my other go-to’s.

This was one of those great situations where I couldn’t decide which track to add to my playlist. So, add them all to your playlist. Just make sure it’s a strictly after hours playlist.

Don’t thank me, thank the phantom

  7. Ready 4 Luv - Naja Young

    “Zac would love this song.”

This is what most people would likely say after hearing this song for the first time. When they inevitably hit me with the Spotify link and the added caption, “Think you’ll love this track :)”, I’ll wait 2 minutes 16 seconds and reply, “You’re right, I fucking loved that one.”

I’d never reveal to them that I’ve played the song over 100x on my own already, aka, my reason for pretending I was listening to it a 101th time instead of actually just listening to it again. Because, if I did listen for a 101th time, I’d probably end up listening to it another 99 times to get to 200. Sorry, love you, but I just can’t do that.

When I become obsessed with a song, it’s on replay till the replay button breaks.

Ready 4 Luv is one of those songs. Naja Young, this is your final warning. Send someone out to fix my button or else

  8. Wings - So!YoON!, Phum Viphurit

When the K-pop is popping, life is popping

  9. No Fuss No Fight - Barrington Levy

When the Reggae is jammin, life is jammin

  10. Privacy - DJ Python Remix - Bell Towers, DJ Python

I envy the DJ Python Remix because it wasn’t afraid to make the drums the best part of the song. This sort of thing is rare, trust me. Usually you get stuck with the learner’s beat: snares on 2 and 4, some boring ass bass drum thumps on 1 and 3. Snooze. Fuck you. Python came in with the uzi and unloaded the clip.

Is everyone in the studio ok?

  11. Where’s Your Head At - Basement Jaxx

I knew this song was going to close out this playlist a while back, but when it came on during my late night bike ride a while back, I double knew. I recently fell in love with biking - like, the casual biking. Biking for fun and to explore my town a little bit more. Not biking for exercise or transportation or anything. I discovered my favorite time to ride is super late at night; at least after 9, but usually closer to 10-10:30. That was a pretty expensive discovery, because I then had to go buy essentially a singular flood light-strength headlight for my bike. Over $100. Worth it? I didn’t know at first… until I recently learned that I can change the settings on my light so that it flashes like a strobe light. Oooooooooh.

So, I’m out biking around 11ish pm, headphones in, listening to whatever the fuck I’ve thrown onto my little temporary pre-weekly playlist, when all the sudden, Where’s Your Head At comes on. It was such a dramatic change in mood from what I had just been previously listening to; I immediately got hyped up. Cleverly, I thought it would be best to try and pair it with my strobe light. It just so happened that I was on a darker street with no (working) streetlights. Maybe I’m lame, but that was like the most exhilaration I have felt in forever. Strobe light pulsing in the dark like a haunted house. Beat going crazy. Me remembering I know how to do no handlebars.

Yeah. So this is what I’ve been up to. Biking during the late hours. Turning up outside. Enjoying me.

Not sure where your head’s at, but,
